Stargaze is an immersive installation piece created by Ajaya that acts as an extension of her series At Grandma’s House. This installation represents the night sky the artist used to enjoy looking at from the grandparent’s house. It includes different constellations that her mother and grandmother would show her and the different plants they used to point out. The installation is accompanied by audio which is the recording of different sounds from the nighttime from the same location where the artists used to look at the night sky.
This installation was a way for the artist to recreate her happy childhood memories from years ago and share them with the world. While the memories of her stargazing with her loved ones are priceless, it makes her heart heavy to think that this beautiful sky doesn’t exist anymore because of the increased air and light pollution.
